Before and after examples
Each pair is one vehicle photo and the same photo after one Modification Goals request, sent to the image model that Custom Vision uses but with more processing steps than the live tool default, so your own render may be rougher. We picked the best of a few tries for each. The full request text sits under each pair.

All before and after images are AI-drawn samples from our own image model, not photos of real customer cars. The cars are generic, with no brand logos, though a tiny unreadable mark can appear on a grille as an AI artifact. Under each pair we list which parts of the request worked, which did not, and any change we never asked for.
See a hood wrap on your own car first
A hood is the most visible panel on the front of a car, and a hood wrap is one of the smaller wraps people try: a black or carbon look can change how the whole front reads without a full color change. Wrap shops show their film on a sample or a swatch. Your car has its own paint color and its own light, so WheelAI redraws your photo with the hood in the finish you describe.
The example cars below are AI-drawn generic cars, not photos of real customer cars, and no car maker is affiliated with this page.
How to preview a hood wrap
There is no special hood mode. The Modifications tool edits any vehicle photo, and its Custom Vision mode takes your own wording.
- 1
Take a photo that shows the hood
Stand at the front corner of the car, in daylight, and hold the camera a little above the headlights so the whole hood is in the frame.
- 2
Open the Modifications tool
Upload your photo and switch to Custom Vision.
- 3
Name the finish and what stays
In the Modification Goals box, say the finish (matte black, carbon weave, gray) and list what must stay: the fenders, bumpers, grille, wheels and the background.
- 4
Compare and refine
Look at the result next to your original. If the color spilled onto a fender, ask for the hood panel alone in the next run.
Hood wrap looks to try
Matte or satin black
The most common idea in forum threads. One owner in a forum thread said flat black can look unfinished while satin looks more polished, so try both words in your request.
Carbon fiber look
A woven vinyl pattern. In our example the weave showed up on the hood; the close-up of a real film will look different, so ask a shop for a sample.
Gray or white
A lighter hood on a dark car. In our blue example the gray read flat, with no reflections, which hides the hood shape.
A color that ties to other parts
Some owners match the hood to a wrapped roof or to the wheels. Try the hood and the roof in two renders, one change per render.
What a picture cannot tell you
A render shows whether you like the look. It cannot show the film brand, the price, how the edge is finished at the hood lip, or how the film behaves in heat from the engine bay. Forum owners ask about adhesive and heat for hood films, so ask your installer.
- Ask a shop for a real film sample and hold it against your paint in daylight.
- Ask how the edges and the underside of the hood are finished.
- Ask about the warranty on the film and on the install.
- Treat any forum price as one data point; get a quote for your car.
Photo tips
- Use daylight and avoid strong reflections of trees or buildings on the hood.
- Stand at the front corner and keep the whole hood and both headlights in frame.
- Wash the car first; dirt reads as texture and confuses the edit.
- Use the same photo for every idea so the comparisons are fair.
Three Modification Goals to paste
We used these requests for the examples. Copy one into Modification Goals, swap the colors and background words for your own, and delete anything that does not apply.
- Change ONLY the hood: cover the hood panel in a matte black vinyl wrap; paint ONLY the hood panel, the flat panel in front of the windshield. The fenders, doors, roof, bumpers and grille stay white, and the wheels, windows, street, houses, trees and the camera angle stay exactly the same
- Change ONLY the hood: cover the hood panel in a black carbon fiber weave vinyl wrap with a visible woven pattern; paint ONLY the hood panel, the flat panel in front of the windshield. The fenders, doors, roof, bumpers and grille stay red, and the wheels, windows, driveway, house and the camera angle stay exactly the same
- Change ONLY the hood: cover the hood panel in a matte light gray vinyl wrap; paint ONLY the hood panel, the flat panel in front of the windshield. The fenders, doors, roof, bumpers and grille stay dark blue, and the wheels, windows, street, houses, trees and the camera angle stay exactly the same
What the AI does well and where it slips
The hood color or pattern usually appears, and the rest of the car mostly stays put. The weak spot is the edge: in all three of our examples the new color also ran over part of the front fenders, and the pavement looked slightly more textured. If a render misses, rerun it with shorter, plainer wording.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free hood wrap visualizer that uses a photo of my own car?
Yes. Sign in with email or Google, upload a photo of your car or truck taken from the front corner, and describe the hood wrap in the Modification Goals box. Most new accounts get 5 free credits that last 30 days, and a standard render uses 1 credit. Free renders carry a WheelAI watermark. Wrap shops and film makers show their patterns on sample cars or swatches; this edits your own picture.
Which hood wrap looks can I preview?
Any look you can describe in words: matte, satin or gloss black, a carbon fiber weave, a flat gray or white, or a solid color. Our examples use matte black, a carbon fiber look and matte light gray. Name the finish, because a bare "black hood" leaves the AI free to pick gloss or matte.
Will the wrap stay on the hood in the render?
Not always. The image model redraws the whole photo and the wrap can spill onto the fenders. In our three examples the new color covered the hood and also ran over the tops of the front fenders, and on one car it covered most of the near front fender. Say that only the hood panel changes and that the fenders stay in the original color, and rerun if it spills.
Does the render show what a real hood wrap costs or how long it lasts?
No. A picture says nothing about price, vinyl quality, install quality or how the film holds up in sun and engine heat. Ask a wrap shop for a quote and for sample film, and ask about the warranty on the product and the install.
Can I try a wrap on a truck or an SUV hood?
You can try any vehicle photo. Our examples are a sedan, a coupe and a compact SUV; we did not test a pickup because the first pickup drafts came out with brand-like grille emblems, which we do not publish. A tall flat truck hood should be easy to describe, but check the result against your photo.
What if the AI changes something I did not ask for?
It can. In all three of our examples the pavement looked slightly more textured after the edit, and the wrap spilled past the hood edge as described above. Write what must stay the same, compare the result with your original, and rerun if a part changed.
Are the example cars real customer cars?
No. They are AI-drawn generic cars, made with our own image model. We added no brand logos, but a tiny unreadable mark can appear on a grille or wheel center as an AI artifact. No car maker is affiliated with or endorses this page.
How is this different from the roof wrap or full car wrap pages?
This page is about one panel, the hood. The roof wrap page covers a contrast roof, and the car wrap page covers a full color change. The tool is the same; only the Modification Goals wording differs.
Ready to try a hood wrap?
Compare a matte black hood with a carbon look on one photo, then take your favorite to a wrap shop for a real film sample and a quote.
