Before and after examples

Each pair shows a car photo and the same photo after one Modification Goals request. We sent each goal to the same image model the Custom Vision mode uses, at a higher quality setting than the live tool, and kept the better of two renders per wording, so your own render may come out rougher. Pairs two and three use a later wording, after earlier ones missed. The exact Modification Goals text is printed under each pair.

BeforeAI-generated sample: a red generic sporty fastback coupe stand-in with gray wheels parked in an empty parking lot
AfterAI-generated sample: the same coupe in a satin black wrap with a slight green cast, gray wheels and red brake calipers kept
Red coupe to satin black. Modification Goals: "Cover all red painted body panels of the coupe, including the hood, roof, doors, fenders and both bumpers, in a satin black vinyl wrap with a soft low sheen; keep the black mirror caps, gray wheels, red brake calipers, tires, glass, headlights, black grille, black lower trim, parking lot and trees exactly as they are". The red body panels, including the hood, roof, doors, fenders and bumpers, are now black with a soft satin sheen and a slight dark green cast. The black mirror caps, gray rear wing, gray wheels, red brake calipers, tires, glass, headlights, black grille, lower trim, parking lot and trees stayed. Already in the before: the black mirror caps, the gray rear wing, the red calipers and the small amber marker on the front bumper corner. Extra changes: the whole photo came out darker and cooler, so the warm late-afternoon light and the red glow on the asphalt beside the car are gone, a small orange mark inside the grille is gone, and panel lines and fine edges are redrawn slightly.
BeforeAI-generated sample: a white generic sporty fastback coupe stand-in with two black hood vents parked on a driveway in front of a house
AfterAI-generated sample: the same coupe with two gloss black stripes on the left half of the hood and a dark glossy panel over the roof
White coupe with dual gloss black racing stripes. Modification Goals: "Add classic dual racing stripes: two parallel gloss black stripes, each about a quarter of the hood width, with a narrow white gap between them, centered on the hood and running straight back over the center of the roof and rear deck; the outer parts of the hood and roof stay white; keep the black hood vents, silver wheels, tires, glass, headlights, black grille, white front bumper, house, lawn and driveway exactly as they are". Two gloss black stripes with a thin white gap now run over the hood, but they sit on the left half of the hood instead of being centered, and each has a thin white outline. Over the roof the AI drew a dark glossy panel crossed by two thin silver bars, which looks more like a glass roof with rails than like two stripes, and the rear deck is out of view, so the stripes there cannot be judged. Not followed: the two black hood vents we asked to keep are gone, and the stripes run past the front edge of the hood onto the top of the white front bumper, down to the grille. The silver wheels, tires, glass, headlights, black grille, house, lawn and driveway stayed. Extra changes: most of the white rear spoiler turned black, and fine edges are redrawn slightly. This is the better of two renders from our third goal for this example; earlier goals gave three bands, a mostly black hood or a dark plate-like shape on the bumper.
BeforeAI-generated sample: a silver gray generic sporty fastback coupe stand-in with black wheels on a road beside green trees
AfterAI-generated sample: the same coupe in a flat matte gray wrap with a gloss black roof and black windshield and rear roof pillars
Silver gray coupe to flat medium gray with a gloss black roof. Modification Goals: "Cover the silver gray painted hood, doors, fenders and bumpers of the coupe in a flat matte medium gray vinyl wrap with no shine, with the whole hood matte gray; cover only the roof panel above the side windows in shiny gloss black vinyl; keep the black wheels, tires, glass, headlights, black grille, black lower trim, road and trees exactly as they are". The hood, doors, fenders and bumpers are a flat matte gray, a little darker and bluer than the silver paint, and the roof is gloss black. Not followed: the goal asked for black on the roof panel only, but the black also runs down the windshield pillars and onto the rear pillars behind the side windows. This example also breaks this page's own advice: the goal does not list the hood vents or the spoiler to keep, and the photo is taken from about eye level, so little of the roof is visible. The black wheels, orange brake calipers, tires, glass, headlights, black grille, lower trim, road and trees stayed. Already in the before: the black lower mirror housings and the orange calipers. Extra changes: the small rear spoiler turned gloss black, the two raised vent shapes on the hood are gone, so the hood is smooth, and fine edges are redrawn slightly. An earlier goal for this pair also put gloss black on the hood, so we added "with the whole hood matte gray".

Both the before and the after images are AI-generated samples made with our own image model, not photos of real Mustangs or customer cars. The cars are generic sporty fastback coupe stand-ins drawn by the AI, not real Mustangs, with no Ford or Mustang badges; all three before images were cleaned with a second AI edit to remove small badge-like shapes the model had drawn. Each caption says what the AI changed besides the wrap, and which requests it did not clearly follow.

A wrap preview on your own Mustang photo

The long hood and sloping fastback roof of a Mustang change how a color or a set of stripes reads, and a small swatch or a generic render cannot show that well. WheelAI edits a photo you took of your own car, so you can compare a satin black, a flat gray or a pair of racing stripes in a light and setting you know before you talk to a wrap shop.

Ford and Mustang are trademarks of their owner. WheelAI is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ford, no Ford or Mustang logos are used on this page, and the example cars below are AI-drawn stand-ins.

How to preview a wrap on your Mustang

There is no separate Mustang button. You use the Custom Vision mode of the Modifications tool and describe the wrap in plain words.

  1. 1

    Take a high three-quarter photo

Shoot the whole car in daylight from a front corner, standing a little above it if you can, so the hood, one side and the roof are all in view. Stripes and roof wraps are hard to judge from a low angle.

  2. 2

Open the Modifications tool and pick Custom Vision

Upload your photo in the Modifications tool and switch to the "Custom Vision" mode.

  3. 3

Describe the wrap and what must stay

In the Modification Goals box, paste one of the goals further down this page and edit it to match your photo. Name the color, the finish and every part that must not change, including hood vents, scoops and spoilers.

  4. 4

    Transform, compare, repeat

Press "Transform Vehicle", compare the result with your photo, then try the same color in another finish or a different stripe layout.

Gloss, satin, matte or color-shift

Gloss

The closest look to factory paint and the easiest to wipe clean. Dark gloss colors show swirl marks more than light ones.

Satin

A soft sheen between gloss and matte. Satin black suits a muscle car look because it shows the body lines without mirror reflections.

Matte

Flat with almost no reflection. Matte film should not be polished or waxed and needs a matte-safe soap.

Color-shift

A film that changes color as you walk around the car. A still image shows it from one angle only, so look at a real sample outdoors before you choose.

Ask for the finish in plain words in your goal and check the render closely: the AI can drift between satin and gloss, and dark colors can pick up a tint.

Racing stripes, rally stripes and accents

Stripes are the classic Mustang add-on, and they are a partial wrap you can preview the same way. Describe the layout in words and keep everything else on the keep list.

  • Dual over-the-top stripes: two parallel stripes from the front bumper over the hood, roof and rear deck, with a gap of body color between them. Say how wide each stripe is and how wide the gap is.
  • Single offset stripe: one stripe running off to one side of the center line, over the hood and roof.
  • Hood-only stripes: stripes that stop at the windshield, for a lighter touch on the front end.
  • Side or rocker stripes: a stripe along the lower doors between the wheels, often with lettering on real cars. Ask for a plain stripe, because the AI may draw made-up letters.
  • Contrast roof or blacked-out hood: a gloss black roof over a lighter body, or a satin black hood on a bright color.

Pick stripe colors that work with your wheels and trim: black and white stripes are the usual choice, while silver, gray or a second body color look quieter.

Notes for fastbacks, convertibles and older Mustangs

Fastback

The roof flows into the rear deck, so over-the-top stripes and a black roof are both visible from the side. A high photo angle shows how far back they run.

Convertible

Shoot with the top up or down as you usually drive it, and add the soft top to the keep list. Stripes on a convertible stop at the windshield and start again on the rear deck.

Older Mustangs

If your car has chrome bumpers or trim, say whether they stay chrome or get covered. Leaving them off the goal can let the AI change them.

Three goal templates you can paste

These are the goals behind the examples above, with the car-specific words swapped for brackets. Replace each bracket, add any part of your car that must stay, such as a soft top, chrome bumpers or a spoiler, and keep the whole goal under 600 characters, the limit of the Modification Goals box.

  • Cover all [current color] painted body panels of the car, including the hood, roof, doors, fenders and both bumpers, in a [finish] [color] vinyl wrap; keep the mirrors, wheels, brake calipers, tires, glass, headlights, grille, black trim and background exactly as they are
  • Add two parallel gloss [color] racing stripes, each about a quarter of the hood width, with a narrow [body color] gap between them, centered on the hood and running straight back over the center of the roof and rear deck; keep the hood vents, wheels, tires, glass, headlights, grille, bumpers and background exactly as they are
  • Cover the [current color] painted hood, doors, fenders and bumpers in a [finish] [color] vinyl wrap, with the whole hood [color]; cover only the roof panel above the side windows in gloss black vinyl; keep the hood vents, spoiler, wheels, tires, glass, headlights, grille, black trim and background exactly as they are

What the AI can and cannot do

Our image model redraws the whole photo, not only the painted panels. It usually keeps the wheels, glass, lights and body shape, but the captions above show what can slip: the stripes landed off center even though the goal asked for centered ones, the hood vents were lost, small spoilers changed color, a dark wrap picked up a green tint and one photo came out darker overall. In the third example we did not name the hood vents in the keep list and the AI smoothed them away; in the second we did name them and they were still lost. If a render misses, run it again, name the part more clearly, or ask for the missed part on its own as a second edit.

It will not give you a film product name, a color code, a stripe kit size, a quote or a promise that an installer can match the shade. Use the render to choose a direction, then check a real vinyl sample on your Mustang in daylight.

Frequently asked questions

Can I preview a wrap on a photo of my own Mustang?

Yes. Upload your own photo in the Modifications tool, pick the Custom Vision mode and describe the wrap in the Modification Goals box. The AI edits that photo, so you see the color, finish or stripes on your car in your own driveway or street.

Which Mustang years and body styles can I use?

Any clear photo of a fastback or a convertible, old or new, can be uploaded. The tool does not identify your model year or trim; it edits what it sees. On a convertible, put the soft top in the keep list so the AI does not try to wrap it.

What colors and finishes can I try?

Any color you can put into words, in gloss, satin, matte, metallic or color-shift. Name the finish plainly, for example "flat matte gray with no shine". Vinyl brand names and film codes are not reliable in a goal, so describe the look rather than a product.

Can I preview racing stripes or a partial wrap?

Yes. Describe the stripes (how many, how wide, the color and where they run) or name the parts that change, such as the roof or the hood, and list everything that must stay. Check the result closely: in our stripes example the AI placed the stripes off center even though the goal asked for centered ones.

Should I wrap or repaint my Mustang?

A wrap is a film over the factory paint, so it changes the look without a respray and can be taken off later. A repaint is permanent, and going back means painting again. Get written quotes for both on your exact car, and ask each shop what their work covers.

Will a wrap damage the paint?

We cannot promise either way. The state of your paint, the film and how it is removed all matter, and a respray or a chipped panel is a different case from factory paint. Ask your installer about this before you book and keep their paperwork.

Is the preview accurate?

Treat it as a guide, not a color match. In our examples the satin black came out with a slight green cast and the matte gray came out a little bluer than the silver paint. Real film also looks different in sun and shade, so hold a physical swatch against your car before you decide.

Is WheelAI affiliated with Ford?

No. Ford and Mustang are trademarks of their owner. WheelAI is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Ford. The names appear here only to say which car this page is about.

Is the Mustang wrap visualizer free?

You need to sign in with your email or a Google account. Most new accounts get 5 free credits that last 30 days, and a standard render uses 1 credit, so you can try up to 5 wrap colors or finishes before deciding whether to buy more. Free renders carry a WheelAI watermark; an active paid plan removes it.
