Wheel Color Visualizer: Preview New Wheel Colors on Your Car
Upload a side photo of your car, name a color for the wheels you already have, and see it on your own paint before you powder coat, paint or dip them.

Before and after examples
Each pair is one car photo and the same photo after one Modification Goals request, sent to the image model that Custom Vision uses but with more processing steps than the live tool default, so your own render may be rougher. We ran some requests more than once and show the best result. The full request text sits under each pair.

All before and after images are AI-drawn samples from our own image model, not photos of real cars or customer cars. The cars are generic stand-ins without readable brand badges. Under each pair we list which parts of the request worked and any change we never asked for. A wheel is redrawn by the model, so its exact spoke shape, hub center and tire outline can differ slightly from the before.
Recolor the wheels you already have, on your own car
A wheel color is hard to picture. Silver, black, bronze and white all look different once they sit next to your paint, your tires and your brake calipers. Wheel catalogs show their own wheels on their own cars, and most of them are about buying a new set.
WheelAI redraws your photo with one change: the wheel color. The spokes, the tires and the car stay as they are, so you can compare two or three colors on the same picture before you pay a coater or open a can of paint.
How to preview a wheel color
The Modifications tool does this in its Custom Vision mode, where you write the change yourself.
- 1
Photograph the car from the side
Stand level with the car so the front wheel is in the frame and the car sits straight. Daylight shows paint and wheel color most honestly.
- 2
Upload it to the Modifications tool
Open the tool, add the photo and switch to Custom Vision.
- 3
Name the color and the finish
In the Modification Goals box write the new color and whether you want gloss, satin or matte, and add that the spokes, tires and paint must stay the same.
- 4
Compare two colors
Run a second color on the same photo and put the results side by side with your original.
Wheel colors to compare
Black
Gloss black is a common first choice and works on most body colors. It also hides brake dust more than silver, but it can blend with the tire on a black car.
Bronze
Bronze adds warmth to gray, white and black cars. In our gray example it looked like copper-brown, so name the shade you want.
White
White wheels are a bold contrast on a dark car and show dirt quickly. They can look unusual on a light car.
Gunmetal and color-matched
A dark gray looks quieter than black. A color that matches the body is the least common choice, and the render can show you whether it is too much.
Powder coat, paint, peelable coating or wrap
Wheels can be recolored in a few different ways: powder coating, which is a baked-on finish applied by a coater; spray painting; a peelable rubber coating, which is the idea behind products such as Plasti Dip; or a vinyl wheel wrap. They differ in cost, durability and how reversible they are. The render looks the same for all of them.
Pick the color on the picture first, then ask a coater or installer which process suits your wheels and how long the finish should last.
A look, not a quote
The picture tells you whether you like a color on your car. It cannot tell you how a real finish will wear, whether your wheels can be refinished at all, how long the job takes or what it costs, and it shows no real brand products or prices. Chipped, bent or corroded wheels need a professional opinion before any color.
Photo tips
- Take the photo from the side with the car straight in the frame.
- Keep the front wheel fully visible and not hidden by a curb or a parked car.
- Use even daylight, not strong shadow across the wheel.
- Wash the wheels first if you want the base color to read clearly.
- Use the same photo for every color so the comparison is fair.
Three Modification Goals to paste
These are the requests we used for the examples. Copy one into the Modification Goals box, change the color, and swap the paint and background words for your own.
- Change ONLY the wheel color: repaint the silver alloy wheels gloss black, keeping the same spoke design and the same tires; keep the white paint, body, brake calipers, street and the camera angle exactly the same
- Change ONLY the wheel color: repaint the silver alloy wheels satin bronze, keeping the same multi-spoke design and the same tires; keep the gray paint, body, driveway and the camera angle exactly the same
- Change ONLY the wheel color: repaint the silver alloy wheels bright satin white like white paint, clearly different from silver, keeping the same spoke design and the same tires; keep the black paint, body, street and the camera angle exactly the same
What the AI does well and where it slips
Recoloring a wheel is one of the more reliable edits: the paint, body and background stayed close to the original in our examples. The first time we asked for white wheels on the black car the result looked barely different from silver, and it took a second request with a stronger description (bright satin white, like white paint) to get a clear white. If your color does not show, say it more plainly and rerun.
Frequently asked questions
Can I see my wheels in a new color before I paint or powder coat them?
Yes. Take a clear side photo of the car, upload it in the Modifications tool and ask for the same wheels in a new color, with the spoke design and tires kept. The render shows that color on your own car and paint, so you can decide before a coater or a can of paint commits you to it.
How is this different from the rim visualizer?
The rim visualizer is for choosing a new set of wheels, with a different design and finish. This page is for the wheels you already own: same spokes, same size, only the color changes. If you are still undecided between keeping and replacing, try both on one photo.
Which wheel colors can I try?
Anything you can name: gloss black, satin black, bronze, gunmetal, white, gold, or a color that matches your body. Our examples show gloss black on a white car, bronze on a gray car and white on a black car. Say gloss, satin or matte, because the finish changes how the wheel looks.
Does it show what powder coating, paint or a peelable coating will look like?
It shows the color, not the process. The render does not know whether the finish will be powder coat, spray paint, a peelable rubber coating or a wheel wrap, how it will wear, or what it costs. Ask a coater or installer about the process, preparation and durability.
Will black wheels suit my car color?
Try it and see. Black wheels often look clean on white, silver and gray cars and fade into the tire on dark ones. White wheels on a black car are a bold contrast. Try two finishes on the same photo before you choose, and look at the car in daylight, since an overcast picture looks flatter than a real sunny day.
Do I need to remove the tires or wheels?
Not for the render. For the real job that is a question for the shop or for whoever paints them, because wheels are usually taken off the car and tires are removed or masked for a proper finish. We do not give instructions for DIY refinishing here.
Can the AI change something I did not ask for?
It can. The image model redraws the entire photo. In our examples the paint, body and background stayed close to the original, but the wheel and tire outlines were redrawn, so sizes can shift by a few pixels. Write what must stay the same, compare with your original and rerun when a part drifted.
Is the wheel color visualizer free?
You need to sign in with your email or a Google account. Most new accounts get 5 free credits that last 30 days, and a standard render uses 1 credit, so you can compare up to 5 colors before deciding whether to buy more. Free renders carry a WheelAI watermark; an active paid plan removes it.
Ready to try a wheel color?
Compare two or three colors on the same photo, then take your favorite to a coater or installer and ask how it will be done.
