Before and after examples

Each pair is one vehicle photo and the same photo after one Modification Goals request, sent through the same image model, step count and request wording that Custom Vision uses. The silver pickup is a single run; the blue hatchback is our second run of the same request, and the caption says what the first run did. Before photos were cleaned with the same model to remove brand-style badges. The full request text sits under each pair.

BeforeAI-drawn sample: a silver regular cab pickup truck with off-road tires on a dirt lot
AfterAI-drawn sample: the same pickup with textured black pocket-style fender flares with bolt heads
Silver generic pickup stand-in. Modification Goals: "Add textured black pocket-style fender flares with exposed bolts around all four wheel openings; change ONLY the fenders. Keep the paint, wheels, tires, grille, windows, dirt lot and the camera angle exactly the same". Followed: textured black pocket-style flares with bolt heads around the front and rear wheel openings on the visible side, and the paint, wheels, tires, grille and windows look the same. Differences to know about: only the two openings on the visible side can be seen. Extra changes: the chrome front bumper was redrawn in textured black with bolts to match the flares. We did not ask for that.
BeforeAI-drawn sample: a blue compact hatchback in a parking lot
AfterAI-drawn sample: the same hatchback with matte black bolt-on wide fender flares with rivets
Blue generic hatchback stand-in. Modification Goals: "Add matte black bolt-on wide fender flares with visible rivets around all four wheel openings; change ONLY the fenders. Keep the paint, wheels, windows, parking lot and the camera angle exactly the same". Followed: matte black wide flares with rivets around the front and rear wheel openings, and the paint, wheels, windows and parking lot look the same. Differences to know about: the front flare is much wider than the rear one. Extra changes: the lower front bumper around the fog light turned black to match the flare. This is our second run; the first run added a flare only at the front wheel and also turned the bumper black.

All before and after images are AI-drawn samples from our own image model, not photos of real customer vehicles. The vehicles are plain generic models with blank plates. Under each pair we list which parts of the request worked, which did not, and any change we never asked for.

See fender flares on your own vehicle first

Flares change how wide and how rugged a vehicle looks, and the same flare can look subtle on one body and bulky on another. WheelAI redraws a photo of your own vehicle with the flares you describe, so you can compare styles and finishes before you buy.

The example vehicles below are AI-drawn generic vehicles, not photos of real customer vehicles, and no vehicle maker or parts maker is affiliated with this page.

How to preview fender flares

There is no special mode for this part. The Modifications tool edits any vehicle photo, and its Custom Vision mode takes your own wording.

  1. 1

    Take a corner photo

Stand a few steps back from a front or rear corner so both wheel openings on that side are in the frame.

  2. 2

    Open the Modifications tool

Upload your photo and switch to Custom Vision.

  3. 3

Describe the flares and what stays

Say the style, finish and which wheel openings, and list what must not change: paint, wheels, tires, bumper, grille and background.

  4. 4

    Compare and refine

Check the bumpers and both wheel openings against your original, and rerun if something else changed.

Flare styles you can describe

OE-style

Slim flares shaped like factory trim. Painted to match, they blend in.

Bolt-on or riveted

Wider flares with a row of visible bolts or rivets, often textured black, like our blue hatchback example.

Pocket-style

Bolt heads set into recessed pockets along the flare, a common truck look, like our silver pickup example.

Extra-wide or flat

Wider flares for big tire poke, or flat flares with a squared-off off-road look.

What a picture cannot tell you

A render shows whether you like the look. Before you buy flares, ask about the following.

  • How far your tires stick out past the fender, and which flare width covers that.
  • The rules on tire coverage where you drive.
  • The material: rigid plastics take paint well, softer plastics flex, and fiberglass can crack.
  • Whether a textured finish can be painted, and how it holds up to scuffs.
  • Whether the kit uses existing holes or needs drilling.

Two Modification Goals to paste

We used these requests for the examples. Copy one into Modification Goals, swap the style, finish and background words for your own, and delete anything that does not apply.

  • Add textured black pocket-style fender flares with exposed bolts around all four wheel openings; change ONLY the fenders. Keep the paint, wheels, tires, grille, windows, dirt lot and the camera angle exactly the same
  • Add matte black bolt-on wide fender flares with visible rivets around all four wheel openings; change ONLY the fenders. Keep the paint, wheels, windows, parking lot and the camera angle exactly the same

What the AI does well and where it slips

The model draws textured black flares with visible fasteners clearly on lighter paint. Two weak spots showed up in our tests: it tends to turn nearby bumper parts black to match, and black flares on a black vehicle did not show at all, so we left that example out. Add the bumper to the list of things to keep, and check it after each run.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free fender flares visualizer that uses my own photo?

Yes. Sign in with email or Google, upload a photo of your vehicle, and describe the flares in the Modification Goals box. Most new accounts get 5 free credits that last 30 days, and a standard render uses 1 credit. Free renders carry a WheelAI watermark. It edits your own picture rather than a catalog photo.

Which flare styles can I try?

Any style you can describe: OE-style flares that look factory, bolt-on or riveted flares with visible fasteners, pocket-style flares with bolt heads in recessed pockets, extra-wide flares, or flat flares. You can also name a finish, such as textured black or painted to match.

Are fender flares legal?

We cannot tell you. Rules on how far tires may stick out past the body vary by state and country, and some places require the tread to be covered. Check the rules where you drive. This page only shows you how a style looks.

What photo works best?

A front or rear corner photo from a few steps back, with both wheel openings on one side in the frame and the wheels pointing straight. Avoid a vehicle that is the same dark color as black flares: in our test on a black SUV the flares did not show at all.

Will flares cover my wider wheels and tires?

The render cannot measure that. Flares come in different widths, so measure how far your tires stick out past the fender first and ask the seller which width covers it.

What if the AI changes something I did not ask for?

It can. The image model redraws the whole photo. In both examples here it also turned part of the front bumper black to match the flares. Compare the result with your original and rerun if something changed.

Does the render show which flares to buy or how they mount?

No. It shows a look only. It cannot show the material, whether a kit uses existing holes or needs drilling, or whether a textured finish can be painted. Ask the seller or an installer.

Ready to see flares on your vehicle?

Compare two styles on the same photo, then measure your tire poke before you pick a width.
