Redline Tires Visualizer: Preview the 1960s Red Stripe on Your Car
Redline tires are black tires with a thin red stripe around the sidewall, the factory look of many 1960s American performance cars. See the stripe on two example cars, then upload a photo of yours and preview it before you buy a set.

Two cars, plain tires to redlines
Each pair is one AI-drawn before photo and that photo after one Modification Goals request, sent through the same image model, step count and request wording that Custom Vision uses. Each after-image is a single run, and where we reran a request the caption says so. The full request text sits under each pair.

All before and after images are AI-drawn samples from our own image model, not photos of real customer vehicles. The vehicles are plain generic models with no plate text. Under each pair we list which parts of the request worked, which did not, and any change we never asked for.
What redline tires are
A redline tire is a black tire with one thin red ring around the sidewall. Car makers in the 1960s used it on performance models because a narrow whitewall did not look aggressive enough. This page is about real car tires; toy car collectors use the same word for something else.
The cars below are AI-drawn generic models, not photos of real customer vehicles, and no vehicle maker or tire maker is affiliated with this page.
What redlines pair well with
Steel wheels with small caps
The plain period look of many 1960s performance cars.
Slotted or five-spoke mags
Period-style mag wheels, as on our blue coupe.
Dark paint
Black, dark blue and dark green make the red ring stand out.
Tall sidewalls
The stripe needs sidewall to show, so smaller wheels work best.
Other stripe colors
Gold and blue stripes, or a dual red line, for a variation.
How to preview redline tires on your car
- 1
Take a clear photo
A side view in daylight shows the sidewalls best.
- 2
Open the Modifications tool
Upload the photo and switch to Custom Vision.
- 3
Ask for a narrow stripe
Say one narrow red pinline near the rim, and that the wheels and the rest of the sidewall stay the same.
- 4
Compare
Try a red, gold or blue stripe on the same photo before you shop.
Two Modification Goals to paste
We used these requests for the examples. Copy one into Modification Goals and change the wheel words for your own car.
- Change ONLY the tires: paint one narrow red pinline stripe, about a finger wide, around the outer sidewall of each tire near the rim, the rest of the sidewall stays black; keep the silver wheels and hubcaps exactly the same, and keep the paint, body, background and camera angle exactly the same
- Change ONLY the tires: paint one narrow red pinline stripe, about a finger wide, around the outer sidewall of each tire near the rim, the rest of the sidewall stays black; keep the chrome wheels exactly the same, and keep the paint, body, background and camera angle exactly the same
What the AI does well and where it slips
Asked loosely for a red stripe, the model painted most of the sidewall red and once changed the wheels. Asked for one finger-wide pinline near the rim, with the wheels kept the same, it drew a thin stripe on both cars. Expect to rerun once or twice, and check the stripe width in the full-size image.
Frequently asked questions
What are redline tires?
Black tires with a narrow red stripe around the sidewall. They were a factory look on many mid-to-late 1960s American performance cars, often on high-performance trims. Gold and blue stripes were made too.
How wide is a redline stripe?
The classic stripe is about 3/8 of an inch, according to a reproduction tire maker quoted by a muscle car parts site.
Are redline tires still made?
Yes, as reproductions: bias ply for the closest period look, radials for a better ride and handling, and radials built to look like bias ply. Common sizes run from 13 to 17 inch wheels.
What replaced redline tires?
Raised white letter tires took over around 1969 to 1970, and black-wall radials spread through the 1970s. See our white letter tires visualizer for that look.
Do redlines suit modern cars?
The stripe needs a tall sidewall to show. On very low-profile tires there is little room for it, so the look suits classic cars, restomods and cars on smaller wheels.
How do I clean the red stripe?
Use a mild, non-bleach cleaner on cool tires and rinse before it dries. Keep tire shine dressing off the stripe, since some products speed up discoloring.
Can I preview redlines on my own car for free?
Yes. Sign in with email or Google, upload a photo of your car in the Modifications tool and paste a goal like the ones below into Modification Goals in Custom Vision. Most new accounts get 5 free credits that last 30 days, and a standard render uses 1 credit. Free renders carry a WheelAI watermark.
Ready to see redlines on your car?
