Hubcap Visualizer: Try Hubcaps on Your Steel Wheels First
Plain steel wheels look bare. Upload a photo of your car and preview silver or chrome hubcaps and full wheel covers before you order a set, then read how to pick the right size.

Two vehicles, steel wheels to hubcaps
Each pair is one AI-drawn before photo and that photo after one Modification Goals request, sent through the same image model, step count and request wording that Custom Vision uses. Each after-image is a single run, and where we reran a request the caption says so. The full request text sits under each pair.

All before and after images are AI-drawn samples from our own image model, not photos of real customer vehicles. The vehicles are plain generic models with no plate text. Under each pair we list which parts of the request worked, which did not, and any change we never asked for.
Hubcaps, wheel covers and center caps
Base trims and many work vans and winter setups run plain steel wheels. Snap-on wheel covers hide the plain steel and help keep moisture off it. Below, two vehicles on bare black steel wheels are shown before and after covers, so you can judge the look before you buy a set.
The vehicles below are AI-drawn generic models, not photos of real customer vehicles, and no vehicle maker or parts maker is affiliated with this page.
Hubcap styles to try
Full wheel cover
Covers the whole steel wheel face. The most common modern type.
Small hubcap
Covers only the center hub and lug nuts and leaves the painted wheel showing.
Silver
The everyday factory look on most base trims.
Chrome
Bright and classic. Shows dirt and scuffs more.
Gloss black
A low-key look that suits dark paint.
Spoke-look
Covers molded to imitate alloy or wire wheels.
How to preview hubcaps on your car
- 1
Take a clear photo
A side or front three-quarter photo in daylight with the wheels in full view.
- 2
Open the Modifications tool
Upload the photo and switch to Custom Vision.
- 3
Describe the cover
Say silver, chrome or black, full cover or small hubcap, and that the tires stay black and the same size.
- 4
Compare styles
Run two or three styles on the same photo, then check your tire size before you order.
Two Modification Goals to paste
We used these requests for the examples. Copy one into Modification Goals and change the color and style words for your own car.
- Change ONLY the wheels: add silver full-face hubcaps (full wheel covers) with a simple spoke pattern over the black steel wheels on every visible wheel; keep the tires, paint, body, background and camera angle exactly the same
- Change ONLY the black metal steel wheel inside each tire: cover it with a bright silver hubcap (full wheel cover) of the same diameter as the steel wheel; the black rubber tires stay black and exactly the same size; keep the paint, body, background and camera angle exactly the same
What the AI does well and where it slips
On a side view the covers came out clean on the first run. On the van, the first wordings changed more than the wheels: one swapped in chrome wheels, two turned the tires light gray. Naming the black steel wheel as the part to cover, and saying the tires stay black, fixed it. The render shows the style, not an exact part, so match the size from your tire sidewall.
Frequently asked questions
Are hubcaps and rims the same thing?
No. The wheel, often called the rim, holds the tire and carries the load. A hubcap is a cosmetic cover, and the car drives the same without one. Strictly, a hubcap covers only the center hub, a wheel cover spans the whole wheel face, and a center cap fills the hole in an alloy wheel. In everyday speech all of them are called hubcaps.
What size hubcaps do I need?
Read the number after the R on your tire sidewall. On a tire marked 205/55R16, the wheel and the hubcap size is 16 inches.
Do snap-on hubcaps fit alloy wheels?
Generally no. Snap-on covers grip the rolled lip of a steel wheel. Alloy wheels use center caps instead.
How do I put hubcaps on?
Line up the cutout with the tire valve stem, then press evenly around the edge until the clips or the retaining ring seat all the way.
Why do hubcaps fall off?
Weak or broken clips, potholes, car washes or an uneven install. Bolt-on covers are more secure than snap-on ones.
Can I preview hubcaps on my own car for free?
Yes. Sign in with email or Google, upload a photo of your car in the Modifications tool and paste a goal like the ones below into Modification Goals in Custom Vision. Most new accounts get 5 free credits that last 30 days, and a standard render uses 1 credit. Free renders carry a WheelAI watermark.
What if the AI changes something I did not ask for?
It can. On the van, three of our runs changed the tires or swapped the wheels before we found wording that worked. Say that the tires stay black and the same size, compare the result with your original and rerun if something changed.
Ready to dress up your steel wheels?
Run your own car with two or three hubcap styles, then order the size printed on your tire.
